THE EUROPEANS WIN THE 2013 ISSF SHOOTER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Jessica Rossi from Italy (Trap) and Henri Jungheanel from Germany (Rifle)- are the most successful shooters of the last season! This became clear after the results of the voting of the ISSF Shooter of the Year awards, were made public.

The 23-year old Jessica Rossi was on the podium at two ISSF World Cup stages, won two gold medals at the European Championship in Suhl, Germany – in individual and team Trap competitions and was crowned with the title of World Champion at the ISSF World Shotgun Championship in Lima. She is also on top of the current European ranking in Trap Women.   


Henri Jungheanel, 25-year old master of Rifle shooting, has shown his best during the ISSF World Cup series. He won two gold medals in Changwon, Korea, winning both the 50m Rifle 3 Positions and the 50m Rifle Prone events, was third in 50m Rifle Prone in Granada, Spain, and was the gold medal winner in this event at the ISSF World Cup Final in Munich, Germany. In the European stage, Jungheanel got the silver medal at the European Championship in Osijek, Croatia, and is heading the current European ranking in 50m Rifle Prone Men.


The best shooters of 2013 were elected by the member of the ISSF Athletes’ and Coaches Advisory Committees and by a panel of international sports journalists. Jessica Rossi ended up on top of the female athletes list with a lead of two points over Zorana Arunovic from Serbia who is heading the current European ranking in 10m Air Pistol Women. Among the top 10 female shooters of 2013 there are also Petra Zublasing, Chiara Cainero from Italy, Andrea Arsovic and Ivana Maksimovic from Serbia and Christina Wenzel from Germany.


Besides Henri Jungheanel there are six other European shooters in the male top 10 list: Christian Reitz (leader of the current European ranking in 25m RFP Men) and Daniel Brodmeier from Germany, Andrija Zlatic from Serbia, Giovanni Pellielo (leader of the current European ranking in Trap Men) and Davide Gasparini from Italy and Peter Sidi from Hungary who is heading the current European ranking in 10m AR Men.
