The European Championship 10m started in Moscow

In February 2014 all sport lovers have focused their eyes into Russia. The Winter Olympics in the southern part of Russia in the city of Sochi have just finished, and just after that, before the Paralympics, on Wednesday 26th February, the ESC 10m European Championships in Air Shooting Sport started in Moscow.

Russia in focus

Athletes will compete for the title of the European Champion in all official ESC 10m disciplines: Air Rifle, Air Pistol and Running Target in women, men, junior women and junior men events except team events in Running Target Women and Running Target Mixed Women. There are 578 athletes from 45 European countries, and total number of starts equals to 758. The Championship will take place from 26th of February to 5th of March in Olimpiyskiy Sports Complex in the Russian capital – Moscow.

The biggest team comes naturally from the hosting country Russian Federation who will send 42 athletes. Their neighbour, Ukraine has a team consisting of 39 athletes. Germany will send 33 athletes. Over twenty athletes will also send Austria, Finland, France, Italy, Norway and Switzerland.


Ukraine won the 2013 medal list

In 2013 medal standing the best nation was Ukraine with 20 medals. Ukrainian athletes won 7 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals. The second best nation in medal standing was Russian Federation with 19 medals (5+8+6). Italy was third and achieved 6 medals.


Qualification for Youth Olympic Games will open the Championship

The European Shooting Championship 10m in Moscow will start with the Qualification competitions for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.


“Europe is awarded with the biggest number of the quota places for the Youth Olympic Games. 24 of them will be disputed in Moscow, six in each event. It´s great that there will be young athletes from 30 countries – totally 185 young future Olympic hopes who will compete in 10m Air Rifle and Air Pistol events. The competition started with 10m Air Pistol Women Youth with 40 athletes. The Second completion is 10m Rifle Men Youth with 42 athletes”, said the Technical Delegate of the ECH Mr. Willi Grill.

You can watch the finals from the upstanding final arena direct starting on the 4th of March at 10.45 Moscow time. The direct transmissions of all the 4 Olympic final events – Air Rifle and Air Pistol (men/women) – will be shown on the Russian TV channels “NTV Plus” and “NTV Plus HD Sport”. The TV signal will be also transmitted to the European Broadcasting Channel.
