FINLAND, LATVIA, NORWAY AND POLAND ARE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAMS IN DOBELE – LATVIA

The Qualification competitions have just started for the teams taking part in the European Youth League – EYL. The elimination period ended in the middle of March determining the five rifle and the five pistol teams to be eligible to take part in the three regional Qualification Rounds. The North Region was the first region to compete for four of the places at the European Final in October.

The Latvian Shooting Federation had kindly offered to organize the regional competition for the teams from Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland and Sweden during the weekend of 11-13 April 2014. The qualification took place in the small city of Dobele, 70 km south of the Latvian capital Riga. Sausanas Sporta Klubs with the President Vilnis Celmins and his team had prepared the Dobele Sport Hall excellently for the young athletes from the North Region.

The talented athletes offered spectacular and exiting competitions during the weekend with Finland winning all four rifle matches and Latvia winning all four pistol matches, a truly impressive performance. Placing second in the rifle competition was Norway and in the pistol event the team from Poland came in second. Those four teams qualified for the EYL Final in Serbia during the first weekend of October 2014.

The ESC thanks all the participants for the fair and exiting conduct of the Qualification. At the same time we congratulate the successful athletes and coaches that now can prepare for the Final in Smederevo. We would also like to express our warm thanks and appreciation to the Latvian Shooting Federation and the Organizing Committee in Dobele.
