A new world record on the first day!

The 25m/50m European Championship in Osijek wasted no time delivering drama. On the very first day of competition, history was made and the standard was set for everything that follows.

The men opened proceedings in 50m Rifle 3 Positions, and it was Slovakia's Patrik Jany who claimed the gold, edging out Norway's John-Hermann Hegg who took silver. Ukraine's Serhii Kulish completed the podium, earning a well-deserved bronze. In the team event, Czechia took the top spot ahead of Norway, with Slovakia rounding out the podium.

Then came the moment that stopped everyone in their tracks.

Germany's Nele Stark stepped onto the line in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women and rewrote the record books, posting a remarkable 363.3 points to claim the world record. What makes the story even more extraordinary is that the previous record had stood for less than a month — set by fellow German athlete Anna Janssen at the World Cup in Granada. Germany has now produced back-to-back world record holders in this discipline within weeks.

Jeanette Hegg Duestad from Norway claimed silver, while Great Britain's Seonaid McIntosh took bronze. In the team competition, Germany continued their dominance to take gold, with Poland finishing second and Switzerland claiming bronze.

An incredible start to the Championship. Let's keep this level of competition going throughout.
