Europe is leading the Olympic qualification

Europe is leading the Olympic Qualification for 2020 Tokyo Games.

The European athletes have won 27 out of 48 Quota Places in individual events and 8 out of 12 Quota Places in Mixed Team events at the 52nd ISSF World Championship that took place in Changwon, Korea, in September of 2018. They have obtained 24 out of 47 Quota Places during the four ISSF World Cups of 2019 as well – in New-Delhi, Acapulco, Al Ain, and Beijing.

21 European nations have already secured their representation in Tokyo. Russia is leading the continental ranking with 7 individual and 6 Mixed Team Quota Places, followed by Italy (5 individual Quotas) and Slovakia (3 individual and 2 Mixed Team Quotas). Germany has won 4 Quota Places, Croatia, France, Norway and Ukraine – 3 each.

Among the main heroes of the last ISSF World Cup in Beijing were Nino Salukvadze from Georgia and Maria Grozdeva from Bulgaria. By winning a Quota Place in 10m Air Pistol Salukvadze, 1988 Olympic Champion, obtained the right to compete in Tokyo. Those can be her ninth Olympic Games in a row! Grozdeva, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Champion, won the 25m Pistol event in the Chinese capital and is ready now to take part in her seventh Olympic Games. Both achievements are unique in the Olympic history!

The next chances for the athletes to obtain Olympic Quota Places will be at the ISSF World Cups in Changwon (May 7th – 18th) and Munich (May 24th – 31st).
