French Yann Fridrici won the 25m Center Fire Pistol in Estonian Lapua Cup

The Third Round of the 25m Lapua European Cup started today on Saturday the 8th of July in Männiku Shooting Center Tallinn.

The changes of the weather conditions made the shooting interesting while suddenly the clouds made the range darker and after a while the sun was shining brightly. or started to rain. Anyway, the conditions were the same for all 20 athletes from eight (8) counties. The first Cup event was the 25m Center Fire Pistol Men Competition.

After the Precision Stage on top place were Estonian Peeter Olesk and French Yann Fridrici (both 293 and 13 inner tens). Series: Olesk 96-99-98, Fridrici 98-97-98.

On the third position was Reijo Virolainen (292) and only one point behind Virolainen came Latvian Emils Vasermanis (291).

During the Rapid Fire Stage the weather was surprisingly calm and sunny.

The both top two (Olesk and Fridrici) continued “hand in hand” in the lead. But then in the last serie Olesk made suddenly two times seven and lost his concentration.

  • Something strange happened to my finger and hand, I was aiming but the pistol moved and finally I had to press. And we it happens the result can´t be good. Then my concentration was gone, explained Olesk after the stage.

The last serie was only 90 to Olesk. French Yann Fridrici continued his calm performation and shot 97-99-98 (Olesk 98-98-90).

  • I´m very very happy. It was ever so hard to finish and concentrade to the end while the situation was so tight. Peeter is so big athlete and this time managed to win. What a great day, told  the Lapua Cup winner Fridrici.

Third was Finnish Marko Talvitie. Fridrici´s winning result 587 (293+294), Olesk´s silver result was finally 579 (293+286). Talvitie´s bronce came with 578 (283+295).

Estonia won the team competition with result 1727 before Latvia (1712) and Finland(1707). The Estonian team consisted of Peeter Olesk, Fred Raukas and Reijo Virolainen.
