In memoriam: Sr. Olegario Vázquez Raña

With great sadness we learned the passing away of Sr. Olegario Vázquez Raña at the age of 89.

Sr. Vázquez Raña had a long-standing role in the international sports. He has been President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) from 1980 to 2018, President of the Mexican Shooting Federation and President of the Pan-American Sports Shooting Confederation, Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1995 to 2015, then Honorary Member.

Sr. Vázquez Raña took responsibility for modernizing and globalizing the shooting sport during nearly 40 years of his ISSF presidency. He played a key role in maintaining shooting’s place in the Olympic program and expanding its presence globally. His contribution to the development of the shooting sport deserve special admiration.

The memory of him will remain in our hearts forever.
