New ESC Working and Discussion Center

Frankfurt am Main. September 28 became a key date for the European Shooting Confederation.

The organization officially opened its new working office with an important event. Open Table - A new format of work for the ESC, introduced 2 weeks ago at the European Champions League in Madrid.

Representatives of European federations, led by ESC President Alexander Ratner and Secretary General Melis Giraud, enthusiastically accepted the invitation to spend their weekend together at the new location. The goal is to discuss the most current issues: from global strategy to the operational tasks of the federations. The ESC highly values and actively develops this format of direct interaction with its members.

ESC President Alexander Ratner commented on the significance of the meeting:

“Open Table is a new and important format for the ESC and for me as President. This is an opportunity to professionally and without excessive formality exchange ideas, experience, and hear what is especially important for the federations at this stage. This is a conversation about both global and private matters. All participants of the discussion in the new office in Frankfurt were unanimous in the opinion that we need to make the sport understandable for a wider audience. We need to engage the younger generation, to be competitive with new sports. This is certainly inspiring. And I am very glad that we and the federations opened our office in Frankfurt with conversations about the future”.

The necessity of exchanging experience between the organizing committees of competitions was at the center of attention. A strong point was made that discussing common problems and using best practices will allow for avoiding mistakes in the future, as well as lead to the adoption of unified, high standards for conducting international events.

The meeting participants devoted much attention to the issues of popularity and media presence of shooting sports. The key idea that resonated in the discussion: the rules must be maximally simple and understandable for the wide viewing audience and fans. Furthermore, ways to raise the prestige and recognition of the personalities of the sport were discussed.

Hamish McInnes, CEO at British Shooting, shared his perspective:

“Bringing people together to discuss the future of our sport is long overdue. We will not always agree on everything and that is perfectly ok. It is great to open our minds to new ideas and then turn them into real action”.

An important outcome of the Open Table was the unanimous support for the creation of a Council of Consultants under the ESC Presidium. This is undoubtedly a new stage in the development of shooting sports. The Confederation President also positively assessed the results of the meeting:

“New office, new ideas - this means that we have a lot of work to do for the development of the sport, and the ESC is, as always, at the forefront”.
