U23 Championship wrap-up: format success and a new generation of champions

The inaugural European Championship U23 in Wrocław has officially come to an end.

Two weeks of dynamic competition flew by at lightning speed, leaving behind incredible memories and proving that the new generation of European athletes is more than ready for the big stage.

The level of competition was outstanding, with athletes from 19 nations taking home medals. Czechia topped the medal tally with 7 Gold medals. Türkiye claimed second place with 5 Golds and earned the highest overall medal count of the tournament – 17 medals. Serbia rounded out the top three with 4 Gold medals.

The Championship saw major achievements and historic returns to the European podium. Egemen Agca from Türkiye delivered a star performance in Trap Men, setting a new European Junior Record. Meanwhile, Malta’s Nico Sciberras claimed Silver in Trap Solo Men and Portugal’s Catarina Baicev took Gold in Trap Women, marking a return to the European podium for both nations.

Several athletes proved their dominance, while the new ESC Challenge formats kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Andjelija Stevanovic (Serbia) led the individual medal count with 4 medals, closely followed by Olympic medalist Victor Lindgren (Sweden) with 3 medals.

The 10m Air Pistol Solo Women final showed perfectly just how full of surprises the ESC Challenge formats can be. Tea Mikec from Serbia captured a thrilling Bronze medal that came as a surprise even to herself. The high-speed Solo format keeps both the crowd and the shooters on the edge of their seats until the very last shot, where a single hit changes everything.

Wrocław was just the beginning. To stay connected with the athletes, check out the ESC’s new mini-show, "Cup of Tea with Champions." The first episode is already available on our channels, and the second one is coming very soon!
